I've created a series of acrylic painting portraits capturing my sentimental and meaningful childhood memories:
"In this series of acrylic portraits, I've endeavoured to immortalize the cherished bonds formed during my childhood on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah). Growing up, I shared an inseparable connection with an Aboriginal girl and boy, whom I fondly called sister and brother. Our playground on the island was full of adventures and on this occasion was the weathered wooden safe shark fence surrounding the Dunwich swimming enclosure.
The echoes of laughter and the sensation of the sea breeze against our sunburnt skin are forever etched in my memory. One vivid day, amidst the aged and dilapidated fence, we inadvertently cut our skin on the oysters and the broken wooden swimming enclosure. In a spontaneous moment of friendship, the Aboriginal boy proposed a pact: to become blood siblings. He extracted a drop of blood from his hand, I contributed from an oyster cut on my foot, and our sister also joined with blood from a minor wound. With hands joined, we declared ourselves blood brother and sister.
Capturing the innocence and purity of childhood, these portraits depict the essence of that sacred bond, born amidst the splintered wood of the Dunwich swimming enclosure. Each stroke of acrylic paint aims to convey the spirit of unity, resilience, and the enduring connection forged on those sunlit shores."
